However you choose to house your dwarf hamsters – either in an aquarium, or a wire cage, or one of those plastic muti-level enclosures, you will want to ensure that you are providing a safe , roomy, well-ventilated, and escape-proof home for your little furry friends.

If you go with wire, make certain the bars are really close together - no more than a quarter inch or he’ll squeeze through for sure! If you decide on a glass or plastic house, make sure the ventilation question is properly answered. After all, your dwarf hamster is a mammal and does need to breathe air, so make sure he can.

Also, to be a happy home for your little guy (or girl), any dwarf hamster cage needs to be big enough for them to play, build nests, burrow, and move around. Too small means no fun for your pet, so go big or go home!
